Commercial Pitch Rate Equivalents

Enter your batch size, wort gravity, and pitch rate to get the total viable cells required — then the equivalent order size from each commercial yeast supplier.

Inputs
01 Batch Size
— mL of cooled wort

HOW IT WORKS. The required cell count is calculated as:
Total Cells = VolumemL × °Plato × Pitch Rate × 10⁶
Order size per supplier divides the total cell requirement by the published cell concentration of each lab's commercial pitch product. Supplier figures are drawn from published manufacturer data sheets: Berkeley Yeast (≈1.5 T per BBL pitch); Bootleg Biology (≈1.2 T per BBL pitch, standard sizes 1–30 BBL); BSI (7 M cells/mL of wort × 1 BBL per pitchable); Escarpment Labs (8–12 M cells/mL of wort × 1 BBL per pitch); GigaYeast (1.25 T per BBL pitch); Imperial Yeast (1.29 T per Verified Unit); Inland Island (11.25 M cells/mL of wort × 1 BBL per pitchable); Omega Yeast (Probrew, 10 M cells/mL of wort × 1 BBL, custom-propped to your batch size); Propagate Lab (≈10 M cells/mL of wort × 1 BBL, industry-typical); White Labs PurePitch Next Generation (2.15 B cells/mL of slurry); Wyeast (1.2 T per BBL pitch); Dry yeast (6 B cells/g, Fermentis & Lallemand minimum). Conversions: 1 US BBL = 31 US gal = 117,347.76 mL; 1 UK BBL = 36 imp gal = 163,659.24 mL; 1 hL = 100,000 mL. Plato↔SG via the standard polynomial.
